Writing

Hello there! Thank you so much for visiting the We Built This Life podcast website. I’m Jennifer Walker, the host, and I’m also a writer.

I started my career in nonprofit fundraising and program development, where I wrote everything from silent auction catalogues to newsletter articles to online content in addition to coordinating events, volunteers, and classes. When I transitioned into freelance writing in 2007, my first clients were The Salvation Army, for whom I wrote grants, and the Johns Hopkins University, for whom I wrote articles for many of the school’s magazines.

I’ve written for several magazines, associations, and universities since then. (Please visit my writing website for clips.) I focus on getting to the heart of every story and telling it in ways that are clear, descriptive, and compelling for readers. Some of the topics I’ve tackled include embryo donation, the challenges faced by women under the age of 40 who are diagnosed with breast cancer, crowdfunding for medical expenses, culinary cocktail mixing, and food incubators.

Building on the intense pride I feel for Baltimore, my hometown, I am also the author of the second edition of Moon Baltimore, a travel book that was released by Avalon Travel in the summer of 2014. I have a master’s in nonfiction writing from The Johns Hopkins University, and I am a proud member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors.

When I’m not writing, I’m usually spending time at one of Baltimore’s many great museums for children (the Maryland Science Center is a favorite) or local parks with my husband and our three kids.

If you’re looking for a writer, please get in touch (details below)! I’d love to talk about how I can help meet your needs and how we can work together.
